Note: The TE-TXL-POL-303-V1.0 Commitment and Sourcing Claims Policy replaces TE-301-V1.3 Standards Claims Policy Section A, which shall not be used as of the mandatory date of TE-301-V1.4 Standards Claims Policy.  

This policy is effective September 24, 2026, and becomes mandatory on December 31, 2026. 

The Commitment and Sourcing Claims Policy reintroduces standards-related commitment and sourcing claims criteria that were removed from the TE-301-V1.4 Standards Claims Policy to align with claims best practices and legislation, including the Empowering Consumers Directive (ECD). 

The policy provides guidance and criteria for all entities making commitment claims about their planned efforts, goals, and targets, and sourcing claims about their achieved material sourcing volumes. Through the combination of high-level guiding principles and criteria that apply to standards, this document supports alignment, clarity, and credibility across all commitment and sourcing claims. 

Claim approvals: We are making it optional for certified organizations to submit standards-related commitment and sourcing claims to their certification body for approval. During the review, the certification body is responsible for ensuring that the criteria of the Commitment and Sourcing Claims Policy are met. 

Annual audit: We are making it mandatory for claims to be reviewed during the annual audit by the claim maker's certification body, following the mandatory date of TE-TXL-POL-303. During the annual audit, certification bodies shall review all standards-related commitment and sourcing claims made by the claim maker and assess whether the applicable claim requirements in this policy have been met. 

Please note: TE-TXL-POL-303- V1.0 Commitment and Sourcing Claims Policy replaces Section A in TE-301- V1.3 Standards Claims Policy, which shall not be used as of the mandatory date of TE-301-V1.4.
