The "Turkish Food Codex Novel Foods Regulation" and its corresponding application communiqué, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, have been published in the Official Gazette and have officially entered into force. This new regulation clarifies the safety criteria and application procedures for innovative products to be placed on the market within the food sector.
Key Highlights of the New Regulation:
189 Novel Food Ingredients: 189 novel food ingredients evaluated as safe for human health have been included in the approved list.
Strict Safety Criteria: Addressing consumer sensitivities, 32 products—including those produced using GMO microorganisms, derived from pork, or containing insects—have been excluded from the scope of the regulation.
Mandatory Risk Assessment: For novel foods not included in the regulation's annex, it is now mandatory for businesses to apply to the Ministry and undergo a rigorous safety assessment before entering the market.
As ETKO, we once again emphasize the critical importance of regulatory compliance and independent certification processes to ensure that consumers have access to safe, high-standard food.
